  I'm not too sure about your cable internet query, but Red Hat had released
it's latest version of 5.2 very recently (late '98  <-- sorry, non Y2K
compliant but what can you do??)..  You chose the best package to start out
with, Linux installation is fairly straight forward, but configuring the
X-windows system can be challenging on other flavours of Linux, especially
the earlier ones.
  The Red Hat installation will probe your video card stats, and many of the
sound cards may be configured now with plug and play.  I've used Linux since
4.2, I haven't been around as long as others, but I can already see some
great improvements..  And everyone is here to help others, we're like one
happy family..  Except when it comes to borrowing money of course.

P.S.,  If you've never partitioned a hard drive before, you might wish to
ask us more questions before going through with the installation.
