It reports "no entries", but after typing "lpr hello.c" that changes to
"waiting for lp to become ready (offline ?)" which is followed by the
hello.c entry in the queue.  Nothing prints out.

It doesn't actually say "no lp daemon present" but I tried this anyway.
I assume you meant lpd and not lp, because I could only find an lpd file
in this directory.  This appeared to work, but I still couldn't get a
printout.
