>From what you say, your only hard disk is secondary master (/dev/hdc in
Linux terms) but Linux is hanging while trying to check the partition list
for HDD, which is Linux for secondary slave. Unless you changed your drive
configuration, something is very wrong, either with the BIOS or the kernel.
Since we know the BIOS is flaky from the time problems, I'd suspect it's
displaying other problems as well. So ... I'd suggest you get the battery
replaced and the BIOS calmed down before you spend a lot of time trying to
fix what is likely to be another manifestation of the same problem. (Unless,
of course, you've left something out of your reports to us.)
