Firstly i can only "point" you to even more documentation, however there is
one program to try which should be on your machine, 'SuperProbe' it will
probe for a video card, "BEFORE" using it i suggest you do;
'man SuperProbe'
In your /usr/doc/* directorys Compaq is mentioned numerous times, in;
Database-HOWTO
Ethernet-HOWTO
Hardware-HOWTO
PCI-HOWTO
PCMCIA-HOWTO
Parallel-Processing-HOWTO
SCSI-HOWTO
XFree86-HOWTO
In thoses files the same URL keeps being mentioned;
ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/Drivers/
ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/Software-Solutions
Others are;
http://www-c724.uibk.ac.at/XL/
ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/allfiles.html
There are possably more URL's and README's around on your system, i think
you should be able to see why Compaq is NOT recomended as a linux machine
after reading the above.
Hope this all helps.
