Let me see if i understand.
You dial the isp, the modem connects. At this point you get the terminal
prompt (the black screen with M$ ). From this screen you must enter your
password and account name (not in that order).
After entering the information, the server confirms or rejects it.
You then exit minicom WITHOUT RESETTING your modem (Ctrl-A-Q) I THINK
you are now back at the prompt, so you start the ppp daemon
# pppd
OK
