I am also new to GNOME and find its function something of a mystery
but I can answer your first question. If you right click on the client
button and select the show/hide option and then do it again the window
will surface - it is a pain but it works. If you find another way to
do it and/or solve the alt/tab problem I would appreciate hearing
the solution.
