What do you mean by "install differently"?
If a machine lacks a CD drive, you have to use a different installation
*method* -- floppies, NFS, or ftp. All distributions I'm familiar with
support at least one of these methods.
But other than not having a /dev/cdrom device adailable after installation,
the *content* of the installation doesn't need to be different.
