well
these people tell me that there's a possibly a bug in the kernel that
comes with 6.0 which affects the file system (i've been having minor
albeit mysterious problem with files system) so u might wanna upgrade
soon.
now with ppp - i've never used ifup. i used to configure chat scripts for
ppp, i now use this nifty little utility called ezppp (u need qt libraries
to
build it) - but once installed - it's a no brainer.
um - if syslog is configured properly (should be by default) check out
the /var/log/messages for clues.
also - try minicom. if nothing happens after u type ate1q - u r possibly
using the wrong com port - change the the link for /dev/modem to point
to com1. (or com3 or 4) ( 1 and 3 use the same irq, 2 and 4 also use the
same irq) i guess you modem is integrated on the motherboard (what a
horror these integrated components are) - in bios setup it should tell
u what com port the modem uses. if u have a ps2 mouse it doesn't use
the com ports so there would be no conflict there.
