Hey Michael,
Thanks for the advice, I am running an Epson LX 810 9 pin dot matrix right now,
it is behind the curve , but the price of $25
U.S. was rIght. I guess I could run that in " compatability mode" please
enlighten me, what is " compatability mode" ? I have always used a generic
Epson 9 pin driver with the ' Doze, and my print quality with true type fonts
such as " Times New Roman" has been acceptable. I'm not a font freak , just TNR
and a sans serif are plenty for me. Thanx
CR

if you didn't change anything when you installed it, you may be able to get the

factory "default" settings from the mfg's website and use those. this could
save
you the trouble of opening the case.

i found the dot matrix printers usually can be run in a compatibility mode,
ie EPSON or IBM or something like that. i've run a few lasers printers too.
if you have a real new color inkjet, those are outside the scope of my
experience.
i have read that people have them working well also though. what kind do
you have? maybe someone on the list has that model and can help you.

if it's an ISA PNP you might not have to. you can try 'man isapnp' and it will
explain how to setup your card. or you could opt to set the jumpers manually.
if it's a PCI PNP, well AFAIK it will not work at all. well, as a modem anyway.

i have read that there has been some work to use the PCI modems as pagers and
and to answer the phone for other prgrams to use. but not as a modem. read
/usr/doc/Modem-HOWTO .
