Thank you for the reply, I have had some success with my problem I managed
to edit XF86Config with the vi editor and created a mode line that partly
solved the screen size problem but there is still about an inch or so of the
top of my screen unvisable, the mouse can access the area but as I said I
cannot see it. It seems the root of the problem is, my video card is a PCI,
Asus mach64 video/sound card and the monitor is a Packard Bell VGA with a
limited res of 640x350 however the manual I obtained from the Packard bell
site says the max screen size is 640x480, the horiz freq is 31.5 with a vert
of 60-70, One would think that with all this info there would be no problem
at all. I believe (please correct me if I'm wrong) the problem could also be
that Linux wants to use an accelerated video driver and the monitor is vga
(did that sound right?) I could hook up a switch so I could use one monitor
with 2 systems but that would be to easy, besides I'm learning way to much
to quit now. Also forgive my Windows like way of explaining things. It's an
old habit that I hope Linux can break me of. Any hints or ideas are
appreciated and the mode line I'm using now is.
modeline "640x400" 25.175 640 640 760 800 400 480
493 525
Thanx in advance for any more help.

more than "X". Anyway is there a way I can compensate for this with my
screen size. I adjusted the vertical knob as small as I could and it's not
small enough. I am using a old VGA Packard bell monitor with a Asus mach64

xf86config file but couldn't find it in the traditional place ( /etc ? ).
