It means change the permissions of the swap partition.
chmod 0600 /dev/hda7

As to the second error,
As i see it gdm is trying to remove a file which is non existant upon its
closing, now i dont think you need to worry about that all to much.
Really, you cant be such a newbie anymore as you have learnt to look for
error messages. All you now need to do it distiguish between serious and
not so serious error messages. ;-)
