Greetings Gurus,
I purchased a "Intellect 486SX" computer at a thrift shop. It has an AMD 486
cpu, only 16 meg ram, and no CD,
only a 500m HD. It has a 1.44 meg floppy drive. The unit once had a CD, but it
was removed. The CD device
driver still tries to load during boot up. DOS 6.0 is resident on the drive, and
I loaded a copy of Winduhs 3.1
just to see if the little thing would fly... it will, but now I want to purchase
a (cheap used) CD and load Linux on it
( after installing more ram). Is an ATAPI drive a better choice ? I have never
installed a CD. Any input would
be appreciated ( except the float/smoke test suggestion). Are any particular
brands better to use with Linux?
There is no need to copy me, I am subscribed to the list.
Many Mondo TIAS
