I do not know about other brands but I had an NEC 6V in a similar
computer, worked well. Installed easily and supported linux without
drivers - still works. IDE drives are generally easier to play with, and
are supported by Linux out of the box. On the other hand I never had a
SCSI drive so I am biased.
In short go IDE/ATAPI and you can't go too wrong with an old NEC 6v.
