Better than scsi, do you mean? Probably so, only in that it will be cheaper
for you -- scsi CD drives cost about twice as much as ATAPIs, and you'd need
a SCSI controller on top of that. SCSI has real performance advantages for
hard disks, but not much (if any) for CDs.

For a CD drive that will be used rarely (i.e., for a CD install, then only
occasionally to access a file -- not for a situation where, for example, you
would be doing a lot of stuff with audio or using the drive to NFS-share the
CD on a LAN) I buy the cheapest one I can find that's 24X or higher speed.
Never had a failure yet. This is a cehap computer you have, so you probably
don't want to spend much on accessories for it.
