I did a fresh install of RedHat 6.2 after using Linux for 8 months
(Conectiva Linux 4.0, based on RedHat 6.0 I believe).
The reason I changed to RedHat 6.2 was because I wanted to use a standard
distro, without compilation problems and error messages because "a library
was not found", dependencies, etc.
The question now:
When I type "startx" it is Gnome that appears.
In my old system I had the following options:
startx - WindowMaker, AfterStep, FVWM2
kde - KDE, of course
gnome - er... gnome of course
Problem is, KDE won't start, nor will AfterStep, or WindowMaker.
The following messages appear after I type "kde":
kcontrol: cannot connect to X server
kbgndwm: cannot connect to X server
kaudioserver: Can't connect to the X Server.
kaudioserver: Audio system might not terminate at end of session.
Using old audio server with talk id 768
/usr/X11R6/bin/xdpyinfo: unable to open display "".
kwmsound: cannot connect to X server
krootwm: cannot connect to X server
kfm: cannot connect to X server
kpanel: cannot connect to X server
kwm: cannot connect to X server
When in gnome, if I open a terminal, and type kde, KDE starts working
_over_ Gnome - i.e., icons for kde and gnome are one over another.
I liked my old distro because I could choose which WM to use. Now I am
stuck with gnome only.
Any idea? Should I edit xinitrc? How?
Thanks in advance, guys.
