We're working to remove as many of these "unsupported version" checks from the next major version of OMSA as we possibly can. Dell recognizes that a lot of people are running compatible versions of officially supported Linux releases (CentOS, Scientific Linux, Oracle Enterprise Linux, ...), and we're trying to remove some of the barriers that have traditionally been in OMSA. This does not mean that Dell is adding technical support capabilities for users with these compatible versions. If you need technical support from Dell for the software you're running, you do need to be running an officially supported version. And yes, sometimes it's difficult for tech support to diagnose "this is a hardware question" vs "this is a software question on an unsupported OS". In this case, tech support reverts to a "best effort" mode, meaning if they can answer the question, they will, but if what you are asking will require a noticable amount of their time, they are not obligated to do so. If you need a guaranteed answer, then running an officially supported OS is necessary. These mailing lists operate in a similar manner. No one is paid to directly answer questions on these lists as their full-time job. It's "best effort". Thanks to the hundreds of system administrators and the Dell engineers who are subscribed, often your questions can be answered, regardless of which OS you're running.
