Yeah, works like that. You need to have the bogus address resolvable. i.e.
put it into /etc/hosts.
I use 2.2.9 with pppd 2.3.8 and demand dialing. Have to admit though that
it's harder than it used to be. I also had to add entries into
/etc/conf.modules for ppp-compress-21 etc and added "deflate 15,15" to the
ppp command (actually I use /etc/ppp/options). Still don't know what
net-pf-4 and net-pf-5 are as modules, but I guess these need aliases too.
You will also need an idle option (e.g. idle 300) so that the link comes
down and also "nopersist"
