Chuck, did you get your problem solved meanwhile? I think I
have the same problem as you have and would be interested in
the solution.

By the way, I am using chap authentication via an ISDN line 
and the thing  gets stuck after the serial connection has been
established (LPC Config Requests timeout). I have a Sparc2 with 
RH5.2 installed.
