Hello Roland, Clifford, and all,

My problem was that the ppp server hardware I was dialing
has been changed. The new server apparently does not auto-
start the ppp process. Strangely, people I work with (who
dial it using windows nt) did not notice the change. It would
appear to be auto-starting the ppp process for them. I
modified my chat script so it now talks to the shell, and issues
the ppp start command expected by the new hardware's shell.
Is there something about chat that can be configured to make
hardware you are dialing think that you are *not* trying to
do a shell login, and that it should proceed to auto-start
the ppp process? If interested, the hardware I am dialing
is a Shiva LanRover E-plus.

Thanks,
Chuck
