"Starting pppd" is a kppp message. Where does the "Exiting Shell" come
from ? From your provider ?

I thought RH 6.0 is 2.2 based. Didn't they dump the cua devices yet ?

Switch the Line Termination setting from CR/LF to CR. The additional LF
might confuse the server. Play with the "Use Lock File" setting, too.
This might not be related: I have received several reports from RH 6.0
users saying that they weren't able to connect as a regular user. I have
*no* idea what's going on there, yet.
