I don't remember them asking...

They put them in cause the "alpha" patches are more stable and useful
than the "stock" raid in the kernel. Why the hell the "alphs" patches
dont get rolled into teh kernel is beyond me. Its a pain in the ass
having to patch, plus *sob* they are conflicting with some Mosix
stuff...
