Mmm... although difficult (it states the targeted versions right
in the abstract, and even utilities have different names) this is
possible...

I guess Jakob have already done that... I run the Howto portion of
the Spanish LDP (www.isnflug.org), and have only Jakob's version
translated; the other raid version is history, although I guess it dives
more into dry technical theory... When people have asked me, I answered to
read the ol' one just for dry technical aspects, and excellent Jakob's one
(maybe it's a little outdated regarding actual capabilities, but hey, raid
evolves sooo fast... those appeared just a couple weeks ago!) for actual
hands-on details.
I could also (although I guess it must be Jakob) talk with them.
The Howto coordinator is Joshua Drake, aka Mr. Poet ([EMAIL PROTECTED]).
Greg Ferguson, from SGI ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) manages the
link resources, I guess. They must be pretty busy, so maybe an email to
both will be wise.
Another solution is that raidtools, when old md support is
detected, issue a clear-like-water message like:
---
You're running the OLD kernel raid code. This utiliyu is intended for the
(not included in stock kernel) NEW raid support. Go check
ftp://ftp.fi.kernel.org/pub/linux/daemons/raid/alpha for the latest kernel
patches, and hurry to http://ostenfeld.dk/~jakob/Software-RAID.HOWTO/ to
learn how to master it.
---
I guess a pretty differentiate, sounding name to the newer utils/patches
may help also (or maybe be worst?). raidutils/raidtools are different, but
not enough for the hurry-to-have-things-done stressed people, and that
could put them off the beam. Something like BNR-Tools (BrandNewRaid Tools)
or RAR Tools (Raidtools Aren't Raidutils) or something cleverer than that,
you get the idea.

Yeah... I have done both HW and SW raid, and with the latest
features, the only gap between them (easy full system mirroring and such)
is dissapearing. And I found this SW one to be far superior in terms of
flexibility; performance is better for SW raid for *most* situations...

Let's hear what Mr. stergaard have to say first...
