Edit your "/home/user/.Xdefaults" and add this line to the end of the
file.
Netscape*documentFonts.sizeIncrement: 5
Then in the Netscape menu choose:
"edit/preferences/appearance/fonts" and set the browser to:
Use my default fonts, overriding document-specified fonts
Be sure to choose the font you wish to use before saving changes.
After making the changes shown above, close and restart Netscape.
You DO NOT need to reboot your system. This is linux.

The hardware is recognized:
hdc: YAMAHA CRW8824E, ATAPI CDROM drive
hdd: HITACHI DVD-ROM GD-5000, ATAPI CDROM drive
This is what /dev/cdrom now is:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 8 Jul 17 23:27 /dev/cdrom -> /dev/hdd
and my /etc/fstab:
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,owner,ro 0 0
But when a user other than root wants to access the cdrom, access
permission is denied.
Could someone explain what is wrong ?
Thank you

Hi,
Try 'man date'
To set the date to 08:02 Jul 18 2000
As root type
date 071808022000
Then commit it to the CMOS clock with...
setclock
I suggest you look into getting xntpd going then you won't have to worry
as your time will be synchronised to the rest of the world ;-)

Subject: problems starting "/usr/local" programs
Date: 18 Jul 2000 07:25:59 GMT
Hallo,
I have switched to Suse 6.4 and have the following problem:
I 've installed some "non-free" programs to
/usr/local/_program_
or
/opt/_program_
f.e. Eagle layout editor from CAD-Soft.
But when I try to start the programs, bash returns ":no such file or
directory".
Here is what eagle does during installation:
binaries:
/opt/eagle/bin
a symbolic link to the main program is placed in
/usr/local/bin/
/usr/local/bin is added to the PATH environment.
all files and directories are owend by root:root and have permissions 755
even when I change the working directory to /opt/eagle/bin
and start with
./eagle
bash:./eagle: no such file or directory
This happens with all installed stuff in /opt/ or /usr/local.
I have mounted this partition with my last system (RedHat 6.0) and and
everything works fine ...
Any Idea ?
Thanks

i think you must be mistaken
if you have a 'win'modem then it is designed for use in
Microsoft 'Win'dows
winmodems should NOT work under linux (any flavor) you need a standard
modem to do that
please do correct me if I am wrong
however in relation to your problem, does this help ?
'3ComMdm 1.0 2 Enables 3Com PCI modems under Red Hat 6.0 or newer
This program scans the PCI configuration file /proc/bus/pci/devices for
a 3Com PCI controller based modem. When found it will issue the
appropriate setserial command and make the /dev/modem link. If the
file /etc/rc.d/rc.serial exists it will be renamed
to /etc/.../rc.serial.old and a new .../rc.serial will be created. '

You can install the true type fonts from Windows as described in

Hi,
I made backups with tar cvIf into several tar.bz2 files. Some of them
got quite large (up to 200 MB). Now I want to recover some of the files
but I can't 'read' the files any more even the -t command does nothing.
The smaller ones I can open with ark (I use KDE 1.1.2) but for the larger
ones my temp space is too small. Could someone tell me how to access files
in my tar.bz2 files with command line?
Thanks

Hello,
I didn't find a newsgroup for INN on the newsfeed of my ISP, and going
through search engine didn't return the answer to the following
questions I have on INN (FWIW, version 2.2.2 running on a Red Hat
6.2), so any help appreciated:
1. INN creates and requires some control newsgroups (control,
control.cancel, junk, test, to). How do I keep those from showing up
in the list of available newsgroups?
2. How to tell INN to hide its name and version number in the banner
when telneting to port NNTP?
3. I got the following script to update the active file from an
example in the O'Reilly's book on Usenet. Is the flush command really
necessary, or is pause sufficient?
cd NEWSCTL
ctlinnd pause 'adding new rec.photo group'
ctlinnd flush
cat >> active << EOF
rec.photo.advanced 0000000000 0000000000 y
rec.photo.darkroom 0000000000 0000000000 y

ctlinnd reload active 'rec.photo reorg'
ctlinnd go 'adding new rec.photo groups'
Thx for any info

My computer has only one Quantum Fireball 9.1Gb drive and I'm trying to

extended partition for Win98, leaving around 3Gb of unpartitioned space.
But during the installation, the installer simply can't detect my drive.
I've checked my BIOS and it says my primary master HDD is under "AUTO"

I am assuming that it's the problem of this UltraATA drive. How can I

Hi,
I have a Red Hat 6.2 with XFree86 3.3.6 installed on my machine. I have
noticed that if I have .xsession (I have .xinitrc and .Xclients symlinked to
.xsession) present in my $HOME dir (it doesn't matter if root or just any
user) I cannot start X. In XDM it will just restart X many times until it
gives up and console login comes up. When I do startx it will quit X
imediately and no hint is given at all ie. just message Waiting for X to
shutdown blah, blah. It doesn't matter what is in the .xsession file at all.
I created empty file, 0 length and the result is the same. If I remove the
file, all is back to normal. Anyone has got any ideas ?? Really appreciate
some help.

I recently posted here getting advice about partitioning my hdd. And
although it was just what I needed I have now just found out that it might
not be possible.
I want to do the following
2gb - Win98SE
5gb - Linux
10gb - Windows Data
10gb - windows Data
3gb - spare
However, upon reading my installation manual (SUSE 6.4) it read that I
couldnt have the linux partition in between windows partitions. Is this
true? It said that YaST2 didnt support this type of installation so I
suppose i would have to use YaST. Is it possible?
I would be very grateful for any help on this matter. I could use the final
3gb for linux, but have read that I need to keep the linux boot below the
1024 cluster (I will be booting linux from floppy not Lilo!).
I would rather have linux in the 5gb partition though.
Cheers

I've just come out of a week of trying a variety of things to get my hp

working Sunday morning but only after rebuilding the kernel to use SCSI

That's using the SUSe 2.2.16 kernel.

Erstens : Dies ist eine englische Newsgroup (ich bin in
comp.os.linux.portable).
Zweitens : Hast Du APM aktiviert? Ich hatte mal exakt das dieses
Problem als ich einen ACPI-Laptop mit einem APM-Kernel zu booten
versuchte (das war damals ein Phoenix BIOS).
Versuch es mal mit einem Kernel ohne APM-Support.

The simplest way to do this is to issue the mount command from a terminal
window. The command should look like this:
mount -t vfat /dev/hda1 /mnt/win98
Now this will mount your disk partition hda1 (presumably Fat32) on the mounting
point (directory) /mnt/win98. This directory has to exist and you will likely
have to have root privileges to issue the mount command.
If you have a system like mine (a dual boot Win98/Linux) and you would like to
have your Fat32 partition mounted automatically, you would have to edit the
/etc/fstab file by adding the following line to it:
/dev/hda1 /win98 vfat defaults 0 0
Hope this helps,
Andy

try 'locate' too. It should gives you everything related to the inquired

SuSE uses /usr/local/bin/ instead of /usr/bin/
SuSE is more leaning to the BSD way. A much better way, anyway.
