a) Make sure that the files in the directory you created when you
installed the /net version are all readable and executable by the user.
chmod -R a+rX /local/Office51
say
Then run the setup (/usr/local/Office51/programs/setup)
without the /net option.
What this does is to put some files ( about 2MB worth) into that
directory mentioned in that installation script. It should be in your
home directory.
Ie, when that screen comes up asking for the directory, DO NOT put in
the directory into which you installed star office. Accept the default.
If yo did all that, then I do not know what is wrong.

Hello,
I have a problem while trying to install Windows2000 and RedHat6.2. I
have installed first Linux on a partition of the HDD and have reserved
another partition for Windows2000. With Linux alone I have no problem.
After the installation of Windows2000 I tried to boot LILO. The kernel
is loaded but when it trys to mount the root filesystem it produce a
kernel panic with the message "unable to mount root fs".
When I try to access the partition table with fdisk from a floppy disk
it produce the message "unable to open /dev/hda".
Is there someone who has experience with Windows2000? Does it change the
partition table?
Regards,
Werner

The simplest solution would be to use some third party software to free
up some space on the drive. I personally use Partition Magic, although
it has caused me some grief in the past. (translation: use it but keep
backups) Anyway, use partition magic to allot some free space on your
drive. Boot to your RH6.2 disk, install process should start up. You
should be off and running.
Good Luck,
dave.

You can set an NFS volume for automount in /etc/fstab. This is
on the import side. I think export is done in /etc/exports, in
combination with access you have set up in /etc/hosts.allow and
/etc/hosts.deny. (Hmm, I don't do this often, so I may be missing
something here.)

The Epox EP-7KXA (http://www.linhardware.com/db/dispproduct.php3?DISP?1019)
should work just fine, it's received several high ratings at Linux Hardware
Database (LhD)(www.linhardware.com) and almost all user comments are
positive.
I would have a look at LhD to check the ratings on the rest of your
hardware, LhD also provides a great deal of information to help you set up
hardware (e.g., drivers, workarounds, and links to guides, how-to's, and
support sites).

I'm hoping someone can help. So far I've not been able to come up with any
answers. After installing Mankdrake Linux 7.0, the kernel starts, and I get
the normal text-mode login. Problem is, the screen flashes almost as if
Linux is switching from session to session, and I am unable to log in. I
have tried various configurations, with no luck.
Has anyone seem this, and does anyone know the solution?

I was able to find the right files to edit, etc., and tried
issuing "network restart" but only responds with "Bringing up interface
tr0 Delaying tr0 initialization" and "[FAILED]".
Not sure what this means other than it still does not work...
I was following the instructions at

If this is an IRQ problem, how would I go about probing the IRQ's in
use?
Thanks!

This is a clearer description of the symptoms than before.
CDROMs are covered in the CDROM-HOWTO available in multiple places,
including http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/CDROM-HOWTO.html
and in the FAQ section it specifically mentions this matter of allowing
non-root accounts to mount CDROMs. Since I haven't tried it, I
won't bother pasting in the specific section, but I think it will
provide you with an answer.

I ran 'make mrproper' and started over completely, including re-running
'make menuconfig.' Everything compiled and I was finally able to boot off
the floppy image. However, during the booting process, there was a long
list of errors reported by 'depmod' each line said "unrecognized symbol."
It seems that many of them were related to things that I marked "no" when
running 'menuconfig.' Any thoughts on what is causing this and how to fix
it?

X windows is misconfigured on your system.
At the lilo prompt boot with the additional option "3." example:
LILO: linux 3
This will boot you into a mode that doesn't start X so you can fix
whatever is broken, usually by running Xconfigurator or xf86config.
