The short answer is 'mv', ('man mv' if you have questions), but here's an
answer to what I think you really want to do. Hope this helps.
Okay, so if I got you right, you have some smallish partition for / right
now, let's call it /dev/hda1 (you'll need to substitute in your real
names), and then some other /dev/hda3 that is biggish that has until now
been a win98 partition, right? Assuming you already ran mkfs (or mke2fs
or whatever), and you want to make the /dev/hda3 (new) partition into
/usr, you do something like the following (as root):
(things after # are comments, you don't need to type them)
init 1 # single-user mode, you probably don't want to copy /usr
# while daemons are running, this stops all of them
# at this point it probably asks for the root password
mkdir /mnt # /mnt probably already exists
mount -t ext2 /dev/hda3 /mnt # mount the new partition
cp -av /usr/* /mnt/ # copy w/ verbose and archive [permissions,etc.]
mv /usr /old-usr # rename the old one so you still have access to it
pico /etc/fstab
in fstab add a line like:
/dev/hda3 /usr ext2 defaults 0 2
the 2 doesn't matter much, you may want to use adifferent number, it just
selects which order it checks thedisks in if you boot up funny.
Then save fstab, umount /mnt, and reboot. (if ^@DEL doesn't work in
single-user mode, try running 'reboot').
If it doesn't work on bootup.
At first utilities like GNOME etc. seem simpler, and if you don't use the
machine much, they might really be...but the shell is actually a simpler
program to work with, and once you learn how to use it, it's a lot faster.
If you know DOS command line okay, then
http://www.sietch.dhs.org/~galexand/DOS2Linux.txt provides a decent
introduction (the hardest part is finding out command names when you're
first starting, there is some validity to the "they named thing sstupidly"
complaint about Unix). I didn't write the text, and I haven't looked at
it in a while, so I hope there's nothing dated about it. :)

Deselect the 'set version information on all symbols'; that'll stop it.
If not (*and* you're recompiling your existing kernel version)
(let's say you're running 2.2.16)
get as far as 'make modules'
cd /lib/modules
mv 2.2.16 ok.2.2.16
cd - # go back to the source tree
make modules_install.
This will stop 'unresolved symbols'; if it doesn't , let me know,
cos it's always worked for me.

Hello,
I have a Tyan Tiger (133A VIA Apollo) motherboard
PC, and I cannot get the ethernet card to work.
The driver I compiled into the kernel reports the
card and its hardware address at the beginning.
Netconfig just causes segmentation fault.
The e-card is Intel EtherExpress Pro100+.
This is strange because I have about ten other PCs
running just fine with this card. Could it be a
'bad hardware' case? If so, why am I getting its
hardware address at boot?
Strange things have been happening with this motherboard,
like I couldn't install Linux until I downloaded the
updated boot disk (6.2) from RedHat. I am wondering if
it is because of the motherboard? I never had problems
with Intel 810 or similar motherboards, but this has
a VIA Apollo chipset.
Any issues with this chipset?
Thanks,
AG

As far as i'm aware your 3com 3c509b NIC isn't supported in rh6.2 perhaps
using the 3c59x.o module *might* work, i'm unsure..
Realtek, hrn. 8129/8139/8029 are defiently supported, again, not sure..
Your graphics card should work, i'm using a TNT2 here..not sure about the
soundcard tho.
I don't see how these cards are effecting your bootup though.. Correct me
if i'm wrong but I thought IDE detection was before kernel init.. Does it
just stop loading or display some error message? Also, try loading from
your boot or rescue disks if you have any..

Total BS, Im currently running no less then five 3c509's in my RH6.2
box. A good idea is to disable the PnP on the 509's tho. And also do
NOT ENTER ANY VALUES FOR IO AND IRQ for the 509's in
linuxconf/netconf/however you config your modules.

Hi,
I am trying to connect to computer with PLIP
I did everything in the PLIP-min-HOWTO, works fine untill I try to ping.
The problem is that one computer -computer A- (a RedHat 6.0, kernel
2.2.16) apparently can talk to the other, but
not the converse.
For the "other" computer -computer B-, I tried:
- A desktop running kernel 2.2.16 from a floppy disk (redhat 6.0 rescue
floppy-disk)
- Same desktop runnig dos and the DOS plip driver (crynwr driver)
- A laptop running DOS and the same crynwr driver
In all case, doing a ping from computer B fails and a ping from computer
A, gives an error message on computer B.
The packets are passing through from A to B, but not from B to A.
Hardware:
I just bought the cable
Ports are irq 7, io_adress 0x378 on all machines
Can anybody provide some help?
Thanks

What the heck is X-Windows?
And, we're NOT serious about competing. You do whatever you want to

I use fvwm. There is absolutely nothing in its 'rc' file except for
the blue background. This is the ultimate in no clutter. Also,
xsession does nothing except start fwvm. There is no possibility to
open an xterm or even display a menu.
My GUI used to be the 3x3 virtual desktop control. The only change on
the screen was where the highlight moved in the 3x3 box. But I
eventually cleaned that up.
Who's the wuss? I've go no 'ones' and only one 'zero'.

I'm working with Suse 6.4 as newbie.
I've set up a network with 1 linux-server and 6 W/98-clients.
I want the possibility to dial in to the internet for each of the clients.
When I work with wvdial, everything is working fine, exept the demand
option, so I have to start up the connection manually before the client can
access the Internet. I've read the documentation, and it's not possible to
dial-on-demand with wvdial.
So, i started writing scripts for chat and pppd, but i've problems. This is

well......when I switched ethernet cards, with a 3COM
Vortex type, it worked!
another machine received the intel card and that works fine.
that machine has an intel chipset motherboard.
