I need some more info on this one.
1. Are you trying a static PHP install?
2. Did you install Apache from RPM?
3. What errors are you getting?
4. Are you trying to install php3 and 4 at the same time?

I have a system with both Debian (2.2.16 kernel) and Win98 installed.
According to Windows, this is the configuration of my Soundcard:
Creative SoundBlaster 16 Plug and Play
Interupt request : 05
Direct Memory Access : 01
: 03
I/O Range : 0220-022F
: 0330-0331
: 0388-038B
I had it working before without using isapnptools, but since compiling
a new kernel, I can't get it to work. I keep getting IRQ conflicts
for the modules sb.o. When I compile as a module, and try to insert
it, it says the device is busy. I've been using the following
arguments when using modconf to install
I/O 0330 IRQ 5 DMA 1
I've also tried other combinations, but can never seem to get it to
work.
I hope someone can give me a hand with this. I really don't want to
have to boot up Windows just to listen to mp3s. ;)

Wahey! I got it working. Compiled sb straight into the kernel with
the correct options.

An ISO file is a cd-image of the install disc for Mandrake. In order
to use it, it must be written to a CDR, in linux you can use cdrecord
and in Windows you should be able to use your favorite cd-writing
program.

The file is usually called ".xinitrc". If you don't have one,
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xnit/xinitrc might be used instead. See the
xinit(1x) man page.

Not on Linux, where there are no entries in /dev for network devices.
(These are just suggestions: Read the pseudofile /proc/pci to see whether
the hardware is being seen by the kernel: the Digital "Tulip" cards should
refer to something like "DECchip 21140". If so, make sure that the "tulip"
kernel module is loaded. Then try the appropriate "ifconfig" command to
try to turn it on. If that fails, try looking through the Linux
Documentation Project http://www.linuxdoc.org/ .)

Under the section called: Mandrake specific tools:
WinCDboot : autorun when CDROM is inserted under windows and gives choice
between Linux 4 windows (Linux4Win), installation and complete instalation.
Does this mean that if I buy the full version, also includes Linux 4
Windows? Is that the same with the Macmillan Version?

I am running nicely in X and enlightenment now.
However, whenever I check xosview or dmesg I get a report of ONLY 13MB

Eucalypt Software - Makers of Autopost & Rocketfuel --- Ripped Me Off!!!
-
All potential buyers should be warned to steer clear of this company. They have a
repeated pattern
of ripping people off and ignoring requests for support.
-
I know someone who sent in the $10 registration fee for Autopost TWICE (thinking the
first one may
have gotten lost) and in both instances, never got a registered version of the program
and all of his
emails were completely ignored.
-
I myself purchased Rocketfuel on-line and had to pull teeth to get an unlock code. The
web site was very
quick to take my money, but no registration/unlock code came for days and days. I
repeatedly emailed them,
only to receive nothing but autoresponses. After 5 days I sent them a message stating
that if I did not have
a working version of the program by the close of business that day, that I would
challenge the credit card
charge. Magically, the code arrived several hours later.
-
What kind of way to do business is that?
-
In any case, its academic... there are other products available for free that do
virtually the same thing
and I only wish that I had known about them before I wasted my time with Eucalypt
Software.

ide-scsi as a module into my kernel.
How do I use ide-scsi to make the os think its a scsi device so I can
use X-cdroast or BurnIT? I think there should be some config file I edit
that loads at startup...
Any help would be highly appreciated,

In the kernel module list there is nothing about generic scsi, there is
ide-scsi, and scsi-mod and sg...
How do you set these parameters before booting? And will I need to do a
kernel recompile? :(
Thanks again

check the tcp/ip pages in the online "Network Adminstrators Guide", they should
help you setup
your networking addresses, specifically for the subnet masks. Each distro keeps
these files in different
locations (redhat, suse, slackware) so you may have to root around to find
specific locations.

better yet, go to the Daewoo website and see if you can find the specifications
for your monitor. Find out exactly what the vertical and horizontal rates are.
You didn't mention your video card settings either. Get all these configured as
close as possible with the xf86conf program and your mouse problems may go away.
Regardless of which version you decide to use, it would be wise to learn to
configure. Early 486's and others computers may be completely different than the
install you are trying to do now. You can eliminate hours of frustration by
getting all your facts together and writing down everything about the system you
are trying to do this install to. This includes all ISA , PCI, AGP cards. Are
they jumperless, PNP? if they are jumpered, what are they set on? Read the
manuals!

have tried every card river that I could think of but nothing works.
Here is a bit of info about my system:
It's an AMD CPU (K6-2 380) with 192 Megs of RAM with two 8 Gigs drive.
If anyone has clues, Ideas, suggestion, I'd appreciate hearing from you.
Thanks
Pierre
P.S.: if you could also CC me on your reply, that would be great! :-)

Dan;
Before you start opening the case etc. to switch hard drives, what i did was get a
hard disk caddy and an extra tray.
When i play with windows, i stick that disk in, and vice-versa for linux. If you
start playing with switching drives in the bios,
win 98 had a problem with drive letters changing for the cd and cdrw that i have, and
it locked up a couple times. now i just
quickly swap drives, the bios stays on autodetect, and it works. plus the drive
caddys aren't expensive ~$10.00. just
be sure to power down before changing! as for distro's, without starting a war, i
played with about all of them, not really giving any
particular one alot of time, but i like suse as well as mandrake.
my opinions only

Subject: Mandrake 7.1 install on AMD UDMA66 system
Date: Sun, 20 Aug 2000 16:01:51 GMT
Below are the basic specs on my new Atlas-Micro AS6000, upgraded to
thunderbird, which came pre-installed with a single Win98 fat-32
partition:
Processor AMD Athlon Processor Family w/Enhanced 3D Now (900mhz
thunderbird)
Main Board EPOX 7KXA VIA KX-133 4X AGP 200MHZ FSB UDMA-66 Support
Memory 128MB PC-100 SDRAM
L2 Cache 512K On Processor
Hard Drive 20GB Ultra DMA 66 Hard Drive
Video Nvidia TNT2 M64 32MB AGP Video Card
CD/DVD Shuttle 10X DVD-ROM Drive
Sound Onboard PCI Stereo AC '97 Codec PCI Sound
Modem Internal Motorola 56K V90 Modem w/Voice
Floppy Drive 1.44MB 3 1/2 Floppy Disk Drive
Question: has anyone tried to install Mandrake 7.1 on a similar
system? 1st attempt with auto install wouldn't let me get past a
search for SCSI devices (of which, I believe, I have none).
2nd attempt was custom install, hoping to bypass SCSI search, but then
advised could find media to install files.
Deja search advises 7.1 has support for UDMA66. Modem's not going to
go but I have an external that's OK. Would appreciate any helpful
hints for this system. I've now gone 48 hours without Linux! :(

I also had problems with RedHat 6.2 installation hanging on me, but this was
after the packages were installed. The machine started reading the drive at
fixed intervals (say 3 or 5 seconds) over and over and over again, until I
reluctantly pressed reset half an hour later.
The workaround I used was simply to install in text mode. Worked perfectly.
Seems RH6.2 installation has a few interesting bugs...
