actually you can probably format C if it doesn't have any files you want
to save. The MBR (Master Boot Record) is on the front of the drive and
not part of the partition.

I'm not sure if redhat notices other windows partitions automatically or
not, but I know that Mandrake has noticed them in the past (back when I
used to devote precious drive space to windows) and set up the boot
options accordingly.

you should make yourself a boot disk for your windows, just to be
sure.... and read a howto on dual boot systems....

Hi:-)

I hope that someone can shed some light on this, as I would like to
customize the look of Netscape 4.6 myself to my liking, and I found
some examples on it,

!this was taken from a sample for Netscape

!!found here: http://www.muhri.net/nav.php3?node=tips

Netscape*background:pale violet red
Netscape*foreground: black
Netscape*XmForm.background: pale violet red
Netscape*XmForm.foreground: black
Netscape*XmFrame.background: pale violet red
Netscape*XmFrame.foreground: black
Netscape*XmRowColumn.background: pale violet red
Netscape*XmRowColumn.foreground: black
Netscape*XmSelectionBox.background: pale violet red
Netscape*XmSelectionBox.foreground: black
Netscape*XmMessageBox.background: pale violet red
Netscape*XmMessageBox.foreground: black
Netscape*toolBarFrame*background: rosybrown
Netscape*toolBarFrame*foreground: black

now from somebody else I got this way to do it:

! Colors of the outline lists used in mail and news windows.
Netscape*XmLGrid.foreground: rgb:00/00/00
Netscape*XmLGrid.background: rgb:b7/b7/b7
Netscape*XmLGrid.selectBackground: rgb:ff/ff/cc

and yet when I look up in my rgb.txt ( as found in /usr/lib/X11 )

just one example:

139 69 19 SaddleBrown

if I want to use the rgb that is on my system, do I use

Netscape*XmLGrid.background: rgb:139/69/19 <- if I want to use SaddleBrown

like in the example above?

thanks for any hints :-)

Well, I don't know about customising.... but you shoudl _really_ upgrade
from netscape 4.6.... and as long as you're using linux, check out
galeon, konqueror, and mozilla.... it would suck ass to put a lot of
work into customising your browser only to find out that there are
better things out there.

It's not that new. xinetd is about 10 years old.

Doesn't have to.

And ... the access control is far more extensive than anything one can
do with inetd+tcp_wrappers. Binding a service to a single interface,
limiting access times, limiting denial of service attacks etc. etc.

I know what sync and async is. And i want it that way.
Your point is true though, especially for linux and ext2fs where
metadata is cached too.....but thats another storry.

No, the mobo is a tyan with a server works chipset and ecc. I dont think
the mobo is bad. We dont use the mobo on board IDE controller.

Both disks on the same or different channel on _one_ controller.
Problem still exists.
Have tried this with 2 controllers.

Now i write the same file with the same dd command not to the mirror,
but to both devices that are mounted. I write *concurently* several
times. **No** problem. But if i build a mirror over this devices it
blows the fs.

Any suggestions ?

How do I setup a portable Fileserver that hooks up to Macs and WinPCs via ethernet ?

Well, that's the big question.
Samba and netatalk is my guess, but I'm not a regular Linux user. That's the reason
I'm asking for pointers and suggestions here.

My basic use for this is to carry a sound library around with me, and when hooking up
to either a Macintosh or Windwos(or Linux) computer via ethernet, I'd like to access
my library easily and hopefull almost
automatically. People seem to ave achieved this already, but I can't find any detailed
HowTos or logs of this.

Target hardware would be some vanilla PC that can take a 60-80 gig IDE drive, so it'll
probably be a Pentium or later computer with a Promise IDE ATA100 controller and a
little Realtek 8139 ethernet card. I still have
a nice little Mystique gfx card too.

How do I put this together with Linux ? Any distribution suggestions ?

  Take care
   Tony

Subject: SQUID and ASP?
Date: Sat, 12 May 2001 20:12:13 +0200

Hi folks,

anybody out there using the SQUID web-proxy? If so, please try accessing
http://www.wizards.com/international/uk/gencon01.asp from a browser that's
using the proxy. What do you see? I guess it's the following error message:

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a01f4'

Variable is undefined: 'csVisible'

D:\WEB\ROOT\INTERNATIONAL\UK\../../include/global_methods.asp, line 104

Now, try accessing the same URL without SQUID. You can also use wget. What
happens? You get the requested page, right?

The above is at least what happens here when I use my Squid/2.4.STABLE1.
I'm sure I have configured it correctly, at least it has worked well for
months (and previous versions have worked well for years). Only some
ASP-pages in the www.wizards.com domain show the above error mesage when
accessed from a browser running behind squid.

So what's up here? Although it's strange that the page can be accessed
without squid, I don't think something's wrong with squid! The error
message obviously originates from Microsoft's damned IIS/ASP/VBScript.
Screw them!

Anyway, does anyone have a suggestion what I can do about this problem? Or
is anyone able to access the above URL using squid? I probably should ask
this question on the SQUID mailing-list, but I thought I'd start here. Any
suggestions are welcome!

Greetings,
Nils

I am using Squid 2.4STABLE1. I don't get this error with or without using
the proxy, when using Netscape 4.77 or IE5.0 as a browser under MacOS 9.1.

I found the solution in the RealPlayer Unix Board,
http://realforum.real.com/cgi-bin/unixplayer/wwwthreads.pl

In realplayer, menu navigate to View -> Preferences.
Click Performance.
Select the Audio Driver Option "ESound Support".

I had to restart realplayer and open my test file twice before it worked,
but since it started working, it has kept on working. Weird but OK.

All,
I am running LM8 and just did an update on some RPMs that were security
updates. After the updates I now get an error on boot. Either it hangs at
the part where it says "Enter I to enter Interactive Setup" or I get

Welcome to Linux Mandrake

If i hit Ctrl C at this point it continues to boot. I can login and
everything "appears" ok but I am not sure how to repair or troubleshoot. Any
suggestions or do I need to provide more info?

You can mount it if your kernel has been so configured.

# cd /usr/src/linux

 Hello,

I am an absolute beginner about Linux. I searched for my problem via deja
and different FAQ but I found no answer.
Could someone help me with this?
I had a triple boot pc (win98,win 2000 professional, win 2000 server)
installed on the same hard disk.
To boot between the different os I use boot magic 5.0 from partition magic.
This setup is working perfect but I want to learn more about Linux so I have
installed a second hard disk on the ide 2nd slave channel and installed
redhat 7.1 on it.

II have chosen not to install lilo on the MBR sector of my hard disk but to
install it on the root partition (/dev/hdd3) of the Linux native so that I
can use bootmagic to boot between the different os.
The problem is that is can only boot Linux with the diskette but not from
the hard disk
If I try to install lilo he is giving me the following messages

Warning: /dev/hdd3 is not on the first disk
Warning: Bios drive 0x82 may be not accessible

Does this mean that Linux cannot boot from a second hard disk?
