there is also new version of gcc 2.96 which is not compatible with 2.95
from other distro's...that means you can't use precompiled binaries for
7.1

hi @ all,
i just installed linux suse 6.4, but wasn't able to use my isdn-box (teledat
usb 2a/b). so i checked, if there are any drivers for linux out and found
out that there are none available. so i decided to kill linux and reinstall
win2k (sorry, but i need internet...) the problem now is, that if i tried to
install win2k, it does the first steps of the installation, aks me to reboot
and after this it is unable to boot from harddisk. i only get many "01 01
01"'s, filling my screen. i also tried to reformat the harddisk and created
all the partitions i need but it won't work.

please help!!!

my system:
Duron 800
192MB sd-ram
Voodoo 3 2000
abit-mainboard
soundsystem base 1 (terratec)
realtek network adapter (dunno which one...)

if you know anything thet might help, feel free to reply to this posting,
contact me via icq (91212817) or mail me to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

bye,
    Marc

PS: excuse my english, i'm german...

No. I haven't got everything to work yet. I am still trying to get X to
start up.

I get crazy errors. This is the 6th install this am. If this one doesn't
work I am going back to 6.2.

Ok I added the listen-on line in the options section. I looked at the man pages for
named and
its not very informative. I was wondering what the transfer-format option does.

transfer-format many-answers;
listen-on { 192.168.100.1; };

Yes, there were some bugs in the packages that were in the original release
of RH7.1.

No, they were not 2.4 specific issues

Interesting, that sounds more like a 2.4 specific problem with your
hardware. Are you seeing this problem with all the 2.4.x releases? What
kind of hardware are you running?

Ok

first you need a mount point so on my system I have

/mnt/dosc

now you should be able to mount using the following

mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/dosc

where hda1 in this case is the firstr partition on the first harddisk,

you may need to specify file system - with -f vfat or -f msdos (i think).

give it a try,

On the same subject should you ever recompile your kernel you will need to
enable support for vfat filesystems (i.e dos/win9x type) as I assumed it was
there by default and had to recompile again, same goes for lp (printing
support). It isn't.

I don't think you are meant to edit /etc/fstab manually,

There is a utility with kde which is a simple mounting package, it lists
various partitions and has buttons with mount / unmount depending on if that
partition is mounted or not,

Once you have mounted you dos partition, click on one of the file manager
programs and type /mnt/ and a list will appear, you should then be able to
create a shortcut on your desktop in a similar way to windows links from
mycomputer.

I am using RHL 7.1 same as you.

Are there new ISO's with these items fixed available? I have been battling
to get X running all day. I have the original ISO's that were released a
month or so ago when 7.1 first came out.

Hi,

My on-board sound chip VIA AC97 audio controller (WDM) works fine with
WinME. I tried to run sndconfig to enable the sound in my Linux
installation in RedHat 7.0. The program detected that the sound device is
VIA82cxxx. After I confirm the autoprobe was done and my system hangs. I
rebooted Linux and the startup freeze when starting the sound module.

Any body can help?

Thanks, Wilson.

What are your errors? I don't know if I can help with them. :< But I can
try.

I know I was getting a boat load of errors when I selected the wrong video
properties for Xconfigurator. I tried to push the monitor past it's 640X480
limits. You can see why I was trying! :>>>> But until I put it down to
that resolution, I was getting a lot of errors.

I don't know but I have a host of Toshiba laptops on which SuSE 7.1 will
not boot. Just make a boot floopy and then continue from the CD. There
appears to be some problem with booting from Linux CD's on Toshiba laptops.

You should be able to treat it exactly the same as any other floppy drive
controller - it is not a "SCSI floppy drive controller" but a standard
floppy drive controller using the same IRQ and I/O address as any other
floppy drive controller. Why is it there? It's a legacy from the old days
when floppy drive controllers were not integrated into the motherboard
(anybody remember the old "super I/O cards in your 386/486/early Pentium
based PCs?)

You only get one floppy drive controller - if you have one on your
motherboard and one on your SCSI controller, one of them must be disabled.
I use to use the Adaptec 1542 quite a bit, and on the versions I used you
enabled/disabled the floppy drive controller on the card using a dip switch
on the card (the one on the motherboard is usually disabled/enabled via the
BIOS setup program, but on an older motherboard you might have to use
jumpers or a dip switch). I'm not familiar with the "CF" version of the
card - it may use some other type of setup mechanism.

BTW, the difference between an Adaptec 1542 and and Adaptec 1540 controller
is the presence of that floppy drive controller. It used to be standard
across their controller line - if the model ended on a "0", no floppy drive
controller. If the model ended on a "2", then it included an integrated
floppy drive controller. I'm not familiar with their current offerings, so
I don't know if this still holds true or not.

You should be able to mount it with:

mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
(provided that the mount point /mnt/floppy exists)

or a similar command. If that doesn't work, then double check and make sure
that you don't have both floppy drive controllers enabled. In that case, it
won't work at all because of IRQ and I/O address conflicts.

Hi,

I upgraded recently from RH 6.2 to RH 7.1 (downloaded) but I can't find
any clue how to activate IPTables.

Can someone help me out?

Thanks

Not on all systems. This is a SysV'ism that only _some_ Linux distros
have adopted.

chkconfig and ntsysv are both distro-specific.

Not always. Sometimes it's /etc/conf.modules (depreciated), and
sometimes neither file is present. In any case, the requisite
  'depmod -a'
in (one of) the startup scripts will update
  /lib/modules/`uname -r`/modules.dep
module dependancy list, where all the modules are defined.

You can download the updated rpms available for RH 7.1 from:

ftp.valinux.com/pub/mirrors/redhat/redhat/updates/7.1/en/os/i386

or check the mirror list at:

http://www.redhat.com/download/mirror.html

Is the problem you are having mouse related also?
