I have my kb setup via XF*Config for decent repeat/delay rates. The
problem is that sometimes during an X session I lose them and the kb
starts using the slow defaults - can someone tell me how to track down
either what could be causing the reversion or how to get back my settings
w/o exiting X (2.2.5-15, X 3.3)?

Thanks...

either what could be causing the reversion or how to get back my settings

themselves but usually they don't. 'xset r' doesn't have any affect (if
it's supposed to).

Just follow by setup instructions. The modem has to activate new kernal

I'm following the HOWTO directions for upgrading drives, and
everything's gone fine so far, until I get to the step where I install
LILO on the new drive.

When I run 'lilo -C /new_drive/etc/lilo.conf', I get a message that
/new_drive/boot/boot.b doesn't exist.

When I 'ls /new_drive/boot/boot.b' immediately following this, it
says that it does exist.

What's going on?

Highlight the text you want to copy then move to the window you want to
paste it into and center click where you want it.

While in gnome, the autorun on the Red Hat CD gets me to the graphical
RPM installer too. But there's no reconfiguration tool of any sort.

To change the firewalling, try running firewall-config; I see it in
Gnome's Programs/System menu, but not in the KDE menus.

Another possibility is that it was built on a libc based system
and you're trying to execute it on a glibc based system.
Symptoms would be like this:

   > ll lmgrd
   -rwx------ 1 root root 223276 Jun 18 15:01 lmgrd
   > file lmgrd
lmgrd: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1, dynamically

   > ldd lmgrd
/usr/bin/ldd: ./lmgrd: No such file or directory
   > ./lmgrd
bash: ./lmgrd: No such file or directory

In that case your options are to get a glibc compatible version
from the vendor or install libc and related tools from an
earlier release of your OS.

For RH 7.x you could install the libc5 and ld.so rpms from
RH 6.2. (I haven't tried that myself but it should work.)

Instead of going through all that bios nonsense, why not just have the
install program build a boot floppy for you or just use lilo to boot windows
also or even system commander? I am betting that by default, linux
installed itself using /dev/hdb and when you turn off /dev/hda (first ide
device and boot the system, that it suddenly finds itself as the first drive
and not the second. I bet if you could look at /etc/lilo.conf you would see
a entry for /dev/hdb. Did you install lilo on the partition's superblock
and not the mbr?

I would settle on a more elegant way of multi-booting which would not be
turning off the bios entry for a drive. These days, one can get dual boot
systems up and running easily using lilo, grub, or system commander.

I would also consider a more recent linux distribution. If you are not
familiar with Linux, check out one of the recent mandrake ones. I don't do
dual-boot systems because I think they are evil. With the price of hardware
these days, I have separate systems which are all networked together at
home.

Hmmm... I've just installed Linux for the first time (Mandrake 8.0). Using an
Abit KT7-RAID MB with the KT133 chipset. I've mounted both fat and hpfs
partitions and haven't noticed any file corruption yet. I think that's only with
the KT133A chipset with the 686B(?) southbridge that supports ATA100.

I got around this on my system by creating two links to the newer files
that are present in 7.1.

ie.
cd /usr/lib
ln -s libcrypto.so.1 libcrypto.so.0
ln -s libssl.so.1 libssl.so.0

Hope that helps.

Well, if it comes in rpm files you do the ordinaery stuff.
rpm -Uvh glibc*
(bear in mind that glibc is a VERY vital part , and if binary
compability of certain things
are broken, your system becomes unuseable. It was ok on my RH 7.1
machine upgrading
from 2.2.2 to 2.2.3 though)

example:
grep relay filename1 filename2
or grep relay * #search through all files in the directory

Subject says it all. I installed the printer. /proc/bus/usb/devices lists
the printer, but when I try to print anything, the computer locks up
hard.

RH Linux 7.1, custom 2.4.4 kernel, Epox 8kta3 MB with Athlon 1200/266 512
MB ram.
My only hints are the following log messages:

Jun 18 00:26:45 radsl-goldber kernel: hub.c: USB new device connect on bus1/2,
assigned device number 2
Jun 18 00:26:45 radsl-goldber kernel: printer.c: usblp0: device node registration

Jun 18 00:26:45 radsl-goldber /etc/hotplug/usb.agent: ... no drivers for USB product

Any Ideas how to troubleshoot this? It results in filesystem corruption
in the spool directories, so I am wary of trying it too many times.

The PS/2 mouse also failed to be recognized. I had to connect to serial
port.

Any Ideas? Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this?

Thanks,
