We have been using a Dell 6300 (quad Xeon) for 2 weeks and everything
worked ok.  We also have a few Dell Precision (dual PII 400 MHz) and
everything work perfectly.

You should use kernel 2.0.36 or 2.1.118. With these kernels everything
should work correctly. If the 2300 has 64 PCI slots, make sure

These 2 are supported for sure:
Adaptec AIC-7880U (rev 1)
Adaptec AIC-7890/1 (rev 0).

The 3com905 100bTX is supported. The intel is probably supported as
well (Intel EtherExpress (pro) are supported). Look at Donald Becker
