They're also less than half as fast.  Sometimes you really *do* get what
you pay for.  8-)

I find that hard to believe.  Consider that in addition to another board
and processor, you need another case, floppy, network card, video card,
hard disk, RAM, etc.  IF you're doing processor-intensive tasks, spreading
the load over multiple machines is a nightmare, even with Beowulf and
gigabit ether.

It provides reasonable competition, but no SMP ability (this IS the SMP
list) and a rather bleak upgrade path.

Perhaps in your space $700 is a lot of money.  For the average business
person or even the average consumer, it's not.  Personally, I'd rather
just spend the $700 and have something that's fast and upgradable with
minimal headache...rather than buy 2 $500 machines and try to cobble 
them together as a "virtual machine."

Again, I've been a big supporter of AMD in the past, but this is
the SMP list and they don't have any competitive offering for SMP
systems.  If the K7 happens and you can actually purchase a motherboard
that supports them in SMP configurations, I'll be happy to re-evaluate
my position.
