I gather that you can pick up P6 systems pretty cheaply these days,
though some of them require expensive (obscure) ECC EDO dimms.
but really, they're not all that attractive for compute engines,
since:
        - their L1 cache is smaller than all other family members.
        - their dram bandwidth is ~260 MB/s with a tailwind, compared
        to 350-400 for any 100 MHZ FSB member.
        - their in-package L2 is actually the slowest L2 among current
        family members (the PII/400 is still around, with a 200 MHz
        L2, but I believe its latency is lower, and associativity higher.)
        and of course no off-chip L2 ever held a candle to the onchip
        L2's in celeron and coppermine (PIIIe) chips.
