Due to a change in kernel structures, ftape 4.02 does *not*
work with 2.2.x kernels. You need a newer version of ftape.
(i.e.: Nope. And you probably want to compile it yourself.)
At the moment the *only* newer ftapes are fund under *un*stable.
They are quite stable despite their classification. Look at
