Hello,
I prefer afio-2.4.5; verification is possible, unfortunately there is no
graphical user interface, so you have to write your own scripts; but
examples for that can be found via dejanews (keywords: linux-tape & afio)
so it is not too hard.
taper-6.9 has some serious problems as far as restore is concerned;
additionally I haven't found out how to do a verification under
taper being run by a cron job.
arkeia has a great graphical interface, but no verification - so
forget it.
I have also bad experience about bru.

Good idea, but difficult. Nevertheless I came towards a workable solution:
I use "tomsrtbt" (see linux.org - distributions...)
as a very well working floppy linux that is
even able to recognize my Dawicontrol 2976 U SCSI-Controller
out of the box (really without additional configuration!); it also
has a keyboard configuration possibility at start up - so - really
great. And it is no problem to add afio and one or two shell scripts
controlling afio to that floppy linux.
Alternatives are mulinux and hal91, but I prefer tomsrtbt, mainly
because of keyboard and scsi.
Cheers, Juergen.
