I don't know why the e-mail software I was using put that on there. It's just a regular old makefile. That was just what I was using, at the time, to make a module (not integrated into the kernel), so use at your own risk. I've got a patch that works under 2.4.3, Given the discussion, I'm going to get a patch worked up against the latest 2.4 kernel, and hopefully we can get it in the kernel from there (crosses fingers). Um, I'm on other projects now, and I'm on vacation next week. It will probably be Januaray before I get the patch worked up.
