This is what is done in 2.6. Both solutions are correct, although the 2.6 is superior, at least on grounds of cleanliness. It's just not feasible in 2.4. I'm re-sending the post_helper to Marcelo and I am including you on cc: so you can voice your objections or perhaps even try it out before that.
