Speaking of which, I'm getting a lot of complaints from users of the latest devices that they do not work with the current kernel code. It looks like you and Peter are offering up a kernel patch to help some people with this.
Care to send it to me, as I am getting tired of telling everyone to go bug IO Networks as I don't know anything about these new devices.
That is what I am preparing. I have a 2.4.26 patch with all of our changes, but not a 2.6.6 patch yet. You said you wanted the 2.6 patch first. Hopefully I will have a 2.6 patch ready in a couple of days.
I can add a note in the sources telling people to contact Peter or me with questions/problems with the io_edgeport and io_ti drivers. We add an entry to the MAINTAINERS file, too.
Or can I just replace the version of io_fw_down3.h with the version in your patch tarball with no problems? I really don't need the new ring-buffer changes for people to just get their devices to work...
You will need more than just the firmware. The driver has several changes to support the new hardware, too.
Also, we have even newer firmware from David that we have not yet released. This new firmware is in the patch I am preparing to submit. Today we were testing the drivers with this new firmware on 2.4.26.
Just to explain--Peter and I made some emergency fixes to the io_edgeport and io_ti drivers over the last year while mainly working on other projects--that is why we have not had the time to submit the changes. Just this month I have turned my attention back to Linux USB serial drivers, working on a driver for the TI evaluation boards and preparing to submit the accumulated changes to the IO Network drivers.
We have a list of bugs in the IO Networks drivers and we may be working on those bugs and doing more thorough testing of the drivers --depends on what IO Networks wants.
Also, I still plan to backport the USB serial locking from 2.6 to 2.4, if you will accept that.
