Hi again
Following Robs recomendation I tried compiling ppp support into the kernel
as a module - however I still get the same problem - when I try to run
"/usr/sbin/pppd plugin /usr/lib/ppp/plugins/pppoatm.so 0.38"
Mar 22 22:13:30 odin pppd[1027]: Plugin /usr/lib/pppd/plugins/pppoatm.so
loaded.
Mar 22 22:13:30 odin pppd[1027]: PPPoATM plugin_init
Mar 22 22:13:30 odin pppd[1027]: PPPoATM setdevname_pppoatm
Mar 22 22:13:30 odin pppd[1027]: PPPoATM setdevname_pppoatm - SUCCESS
Mar 22 22:13:30 odin pppd[1027]: pppd 2.4.0b1 started by root, uid 0
Mar 22 22:13:30 odin pppd[1027]: ioctl(ATM_SETBACKEND): No such device
Mar 22 22:13:30 odin pppd[1027]: Exit.
I noticed the Tony Hoyle was having problems with his machine locking up
with the error:
usb.c: usb_control/bulk_msg: timeout
usbdevfs: process 4732 (mgmt) did not claim interface 0 before use
I have seen this as well - I'm not entirely sure - but it seems to me that
after you load "speedtch.o" and "mgmt" it takes a while before the modem
lights come on solid (I'm not sure but is this the ADSL modem syncronising
with the exchange ?). If I try to load pppd before this syncronization takes
place I get the above message and then the machine locks up. If I wait -
all seems well
Cheers
Mat
