ok, so, trying to make this all work with the new patched 2.4.4 kernel
i got in response to y'all's emails, i found that...nothing really worked.
but, in order to use the HID driver, i had to edit /etc/rc.d/init.d/usb,
which, under mandrake 7.2 and 8.0, is hard coded to load mousebp.
well, the new kernel was not working out, mouse wise, and so i rebooted
back into the default 2.4.3 kernel...
and lo and behold, it worked!

so, to summarize:
to get an iFeel mouse working under mandrake 8.0, edit /etc/rc.d/init.d/usb
to load hid instead of mousebp. also, /etc/sysconfig/usb should
be edited as well (a config file that .../init.d/usb uses to figure out
what to load and what to ignore).

thanks for all your help!

have fun
