are you trying to use gPhoto 0.4.3 or gPhoto 2.0?
if gPhoto 0.4.3: you need to make sure you have the dc2xx module loaded.
You may need to edit /lib/modules/2.4.3/modules.usbmap to make the
kernel load the dc2xx driver for your camera. you should add the
dc3400's ID's.
if gPhoto 2.0: you don't need a kernel level driver. just make sure you
have usbfs mounted properly (check /proc/bus/usb/devices). If so, use
any gphoto2 frontend to use the camera. gPhoto 2.0 uses a user-space
driver implementation, so no kernel drivers are necessary (other than
USB modules of course ;).
