Could you please post the descriptors? Output of lsusb if you have it, or
/proc/bus/usb/devices (you may need to mount it - see FAQ on
http://www.linux-usb.org). lsusb would be particularly good, because it might
help identify the mixer problem too.

Greg KH just submitted the patch that may allow you to map the buttons
(volume?) as keyboard entries. Look for it in 2.4.15 final. Then you can use
showkey -s to figure out the scancode (eg. volume up should be 0xe0 0x1e 0xe0
0x9e, while volume down should be 0xe0 0x25 0xe0 0xa5_
