I don't know if that could be causing problems, but AFAICT, it is for the microphone, so it shouldn't affect things much. I really don't know enough to tell for sure.
The other thing you could provide would be extracts from your logs. Anything starting with usbaudio, usbout or usbin is potentially applicable. A small section showing any errors when you vary the mixer would be ideal.
