I'm using kernel 2.4.10 and pppd 2.4.1 with a roadster II 56 USB modem, and a K7VZA Athlon mainboard. (but the problem was also present with a 2.4.2-2 kernel)
When I connect to a terminal session with this modem, all is fine. The session can run for 20 minutes or so. When I use the pppd with a serial modem, all is fine, you get a good link. However, when I connect with pppd to the USB modem, the connection takes place without any difficulties, and I can ping the other site. But about 17 seconds into the session, things grind to a halt. pppd freezes, and there is no information in the log, even with full kernel debugging. Sometimes, (perhaps one in ten tries), the connection is made OK, and then there is a delay in the pings at about 17 seconds, a gap of about 2 or 3 seconds. This could be seen as a pppd problem or an ACM problem (or even a modem/ motherboard problem). But, if ttyACM0 "looked exactly like" a serial tty, presumably there would not be a problem. So I'm starting here. I'm not on the list, please copy replies to me. Any help much appreciated. -- John August There are no bad blocks.
