Additional information that I forgot to mention. Sorry.

I have an IOGear MicroHub (4-port, not powered) attached to my second USB port
on the back of my computer to assist in testing with this problem. It allows
me to unplug mouse and keyboard from the KVM and connect them to my Linux
computer without getting back behind the machine (which is under the desk). I
do *NOT* think that this is causing the problem because I did not have the hub
plugged into the computer initially when I started using the KVM. (I.e. it
wasn't even part of the equation when the KVM problem started, as far as I
know.) I will check again to be sure that it's not a conflict after I finish
sending this message. I'm mentioning this so that perhaps it will prevent any
confusion about the number of USB devices that might be reported in the
/var/log/messages snippets I'm sending. When the hub and KVM are plugged in,
that should be (by my count) 8 ports total, external to the computer itself.
The KVM has four and the hub has 4.

As you may already know, the MS Natural Pro has a 2-port hub built into the
back, so messages about the keyboard may also increase the number of reported
ports.

Right after I sent the last message, I disconnected the mouse and keyboard
from the KVM and plugged them into this IOGear MicroHub and they immediately
began to work. I did not unplug the KVM from this machine when I did so...I
just moved the mouse and keyboard over to the MicroHub and touched no other
cables. As soon as they were plugged into the MicroHub, they both started
working, as you can see in the latest snipped from /var/log/messages that I
have attached.

I hope that these extra details will be helpful.

Thanks again,
matt
