Yup, that's it. I'd call it a crappy H/W however it more or less works under
Windows and that scarries me a lot, because now I'm nore sure whether it's just
a faulty piece of H/W or the whole brand is not worth playing with. I've seen
many posts that people got it to work ( 9pin and 25pin versions ) without
problems so I believe that mine is somehow buggy. When minicom got frozen
on write(), re-loading mct_u232 and usbserial didn't fix the problem. I had
to reload usb-uhci and then it appeared to work again until it got frozen
again.

I'm seeing the same story with Rx/Tx leds but under Linux. Modem indicates
it's receiving and sending chars, but I'm not getting response to cmds at all.
Another funny fact is ( under Win though ) that even if I was able to talk
to a modem, I never managed to send a BREAK signal. The link indicator on
the converter blinked but no data were send outside of it ( verified with
serial port snooper ).
