Please quantify "does not work".
Does your machine not boot with this device attached? Does it drop occasional 
packets? Something in between?
Is the driver claiming the device? Is the usb0 device created? What does 
/proc/bus/usb/devices show?

The Net1080 is a good choice. But if you can't buy it, you have to stick with 
what you have.
