If the problem is in your software, then clearly you can't really do anything 
unless you upgrade or patch. 

How about you try a _recent_ kernel (2.4.18 was released in February, and the 
quote you've provided is from April, so you clearly need a version later than 
that )

I'd suggest 2.4.20.
