What exactly does that error message indicate? Does it mean that the modprobe function cannot locate the requried driver/module? I have two other mass storage devices that work perfectly - a USB memory stick and a USB external CDRW.

The camera (Panasonic Lumix DMC-F7) is based on the DCF standards (Design rule for Camera File System) that was established by the Japan Electronic Industry Technology Association (JEITA).

The drivers load up automatically with Windows and with Mac OSX. Would it be correct to assume that the camera may work with say kernel 2.5.50? The latest kernel that I tried to use the camera with was RedHat 8.1 beta that ran on 2.4.20.

Simon.

should be insmod usb-storage failed?

After 30 seconds the linux operating system had completely locked - even ctrl-alt-del did not work. Swithcing the power off was effective though. Any ideas?

Which USB chipset do you have? VIA 586B is known to have a seriuos bug for
bulk transfers.
