It is a Panasonic Lumix DMC-F7 . The camera complies to the DCF standards estabished by JEITA. Googling for 50 hours didn't find any useful information.

After 30 seconds the linux operating system had completely locked - even ctrl-alt-del did not work. Swithcing the power off was effective though. Any ideas?

Which USB chipset do you have? VIA 586B is known to have a seriuos bug for
bulk transfers.

And what camera? I've got a SWEEX 6-in-1 cardreader which will lock the machine about 30 or 60 seconds after trying to read something off a CF card or memory stick....
