It is a Panasonic Lumix DMC-F7 . The camera complies to the DCF standards estabished by JEITA. Googling for 50 hours didn't find any useful information.

Which USB chipset do you have? VIA 586B is known to have a seriuos bug for
bulk transfers.
And what camera? I've got a SWEEX 6-in-1 cardreader which will lock the machine about 30 or 60 seconds after trying to read something off a CF card or memory stick....
