Although I'm not that intent on using my camcorder to stream video over USB, I'm still interested in these threads and would try to contribute (testing, etc) if needed.

Hi All,
Indeed, I received a patch from Alan Stern in July for this and it worked. I don't know either if Alan has pushed it to the dev team . I'am sure he will tell us more.

After this first step to the success, I tried to "reuse" the existing webcam drivers wihtout ... success (shaking them a bit to try to recognize the video device). I tried also to get some technical support from Sony, at least to get some technical details of the CCD chip, format of the video stream.... without more success :-).

Than I left for some holidays...and played a lot with my Camera :-))).

I bought a cheap TV card, so I can plug my camera to it via the SVideo or Composite input. The bttv driver works perfectly for the TV card. The IEEE1394 works also perfectly (in & out)) thanks to the TRANSCODE and all the DV1394, VIDEO1394 stuff.

Now, I'am still interested to make it work (the USB video stream) just for the challenge and for the fun ! But I don't have any experience to write a Linux Driver. So,if you can....your contribution would be greatly appreciated :-).

The only way I can contribute to the dev of such a module is by providing some help to probe the device, provide some logs, recompile some drivers, & test them....or if you think about something else, we can of course think about it. That could be my little contribution to such a project :-).

Just one thing. Don't you think we should move to a V4L users list to continue this thread ?

Thanks a lot for your interest !

Luc
